Playful Thursday

Program description: A family oriented program offered by the children’s program coordinator. Both parents and children have opportunities to socialize with other families and to learn through play. This fun morning includes a story time, craft, creative play and snack time. Parents who can provide their own snack are welcome to do so.

Musical morning:

Program Description:  This one hour program is irresistibly engaging with music, songs and movement for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and parents. Children learn musical skills that have wonderful rewards such as increasing their self-esteem, improving their focus and healthy peer relationships. Our program also provides opportunities for parent and child to bond through music and dance.

Did you know when parents or a caring adult is engaged in physical activity with a child, a child is much more likely to participate. Families and caregivers play such an important role in helping children and their family take positive steps to becoming more physically active and well.

Program description:

This program is offered on a weekly basis at the Main Centre and in the outreach locations once a month.  This program helps children develop their coordination, motor skills, leadership, imagination and confidence through physical activity experiences. The main objective is to promote physical activities at an early age and offer parents easy and secure ways to encourage daily physical activities at home with their children.

Baby and Me

Program description:

A drop-in program offered once a week, in a safe, stimulating, fun environment exclusively for parents and their babies 0-12 months. Join in for discussions, activities and information sharing. This is a great opportunity for families to meet and develop friendships and social support networks. Some of the activities could be planned and special guest speakers could be invited. Special presentations will be posted on the monthly activity calendar.

“Before a child can learn, a child needs to feel secure “

Program description:

The School Readiness program is an 8 week program designed to help children to learn in a positive, safe and fun environment. This program will help both, children and their parents to prepare for school. Children will develop   their self-esteem, cooperation, problem solving, social skills, language skills, as well as developing their physical skills.  It also assists greatly to begin the separation process between parents and children. While the children are in a class setting, parents will receive educational workshops on different subjects including: healthy nutrition, positive parenting, children and stress, language development and much more.

Family Playtime

“New research indicates that free and unstructured play is critical to healthy child development”

Program description: A non-structured playtime for families.  Parents and children are welcome to use the playroom and have access to all the materials on site. This program offers parents a wonderful opportunity to engage fully with their children or simply socialize with other families while children are at play! Sometimes by just keeping an eye on your children without interfering in their play, gives them the freedom to play and explore at their own pace. The program is not structured; however, the family playroom is prepared to encourage and maximise the opportunities for the children to explore and try new things.

Books for parents and children can be borrowed at the Main Centre location. Children will be delighted with our new books selection starting May 2017.  Parents will also find a great inventory of books on pre-and postnatal care, parenting, self-help, health & nutrition, relationships, child development, breast feeding and much more. Every participant will receive a free hand made book bag on their first visit!

Clothing Swap:

“Bring what you have, take what you love.”

(No pre-registration required)

Program description:

There is no limit to how many pieces you take home, and swapping can save you money and time! Bring a bag and leave with a bag. Please bring clean clothes (children or adult) that does not fit anymore and come find some gently used clothes. Everyone is welcome. You can come earlier if you like to help set up the containers and displays.  We will donate the leftovers to a good cause (or arrange for a donation pickup with charities).

Family swim:

Only families that are registered with the Family Resource Centre can participate

Please note: All users including babies must wear a bathing cap and little swimmer diapers for babies.

Program description: This special activity is offered the first Monday of the month for families already registered with the Family Resource Centre. Children must be accompanied by parent or caretaker at all times. Parents or caretakers are fully responsible for their children during this activity. Each parent or caretaker is required to sign a waiver prior to entering the pool. The families will be accompanied by the Centre’s program coordinator. All families must follow the Aquatic Centre facilities rules and regulations.

Mother Goose program:

'Discover the power and pleasure of rhymes, songs, and stories'

 (Pre-registration is required)

Program description:  Come and join a group of parents with your child for a free 8 to 10 week program. You will cuddle, talk, sing and have fun with your child or your baby, while learning rhymes, songs and stories. This program is offered by two qualified facilitators, sometimes, in collaboration with Talk with Me Program.

Program description: The activities are organised by the staff and volunteers of the Family Resource Centre. These are great opportunities to get to meet everyone and get to know your community, different cultures, talents and food!

Car Seat Safety
(By appointment only)

When: Every Monday afternoon

We offer a car seat safety session, individually or in a group by a professionally trained staff technician.'

  • Parents will learn how to install their car seat with confidence.
  • Understand your car seat manual instructions and how to cross reference that with the vehicle safety manual.
  • The importance of not using aftermarket products

Meet and Greet
(Pre-registration required)

Program description: It's an hour event; interactive games, snacks and prizes, and a gift bag for each family. You will meet other parents while learning about all the free programs we offer under the CAPC program (Community Action program for families with children 0-6yrs) and the New Born New Life program (Canadian Prenatal nutrition program, priority to parents 24yrs and under with baby 0-12 months) The first 12 requesting participants get to go home with a baby box.
